Beautiful Hiroshima

I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to visit Japan on a number of occasions, with spending the majority of the time visiting my wife’s family in Hiroshima, Japan.

Hiroshima is a beautiful city, though sadly it is best known for being the location of the first nuclear attack in history when the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city.

The nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the 6th and 9th August 1945, killed as many as 340,000 people according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Atomic Bomb Dome is a place for reflection and contemplation about the horrors of war and especially the use of nuclear weapons.

Owl Cafe in Tokyo

It was a wonderful experience to visit the Owl Cafe in Tokyo: Akihabara’s Owl no Mori (Forest of Owl). As a bird lover it has to be one of the best things to do in Tokyo. I felt honoured to spend some time with such beautiful creatures. I also had an unusual experience with one of the owls reacting to my DSLR camera, as it must have thought that my camera was another owl as the owl started making loud clicking noises and flapping its wings, so I gave him some space to let him calm down and then he was fine.
