Beautiful Hiroshima

I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to visit Japan on a number of occasions, with spending the majority of the time visiting my wife’s family in Hiroshima, Japan.

Hiroshima is a beautiful city, though sadly it is best known for being the location of the first nuclear attack in history when the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city.

The nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the 6th and 9th August 1945, killed as many as 340,000 people according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Atomic Bomb Dome is a place for reflection and contemplation about the horrors of war and especially the use of nuclear weapons.

Anti-APEC Protest

The above main photo was one of those rare photographic moments when I was waiting for the protest to start. I mean no direspect to the police.

I took the following images on Saturday 8 September 2007 in Sydney Australia, which saw the biggest of the organised APEC protest rallies.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Australia 2007 was a series of political meetings held around Australia between the 21 member economies. 21 world leaders, including US President George W Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin, were in Sydney for the APEC summit.
